New Baby Appointments
Congratulations! Expecting a baby (whether first or fifth) is such an exciting time. We are here to make sure you and your baby are well-supported, healthy, and happy.
When to schedule your First visit
We no longer see babies in the hospital — we leave that to specialists who focus their care in the hospital setting. We will want to see your new baby within 2-3 days of being discharged from the hospital unless otherwise directed by your hospital team (some babies need to be seen sooner if they are having trouble gaining weight or with jaundice). At the time of discharge, let your hospital team know you have chosen us as your pediatric office and they will forward on important information such as the results of any hospital labs and screenings.
How to prepare for your first visit
To make your first visit as easy as possible, we recommend you download and fill out all the new patient paperwork ahead of time (see forms above). We also ask you to bring any hospital documentation you were given at the time of discharge. We know this first visit can be overwhelming so do not worry if you forget any of this — we will make it work!
your first visit
During your first visit, we will treat your baby and you as a family. We will do all the basic things like checking height and weight, vital signs, and bilirubin levels. We will do a complete physical exam to ensure your baby is healthy. And then, just as importantly, we will spend a lot of time talking — talking about your baby, you, and your family. Bring any and all questions and remember: no question is too silly to ask. We will end the visit with some helpful tips and reminders and schedule the next visit for when your baby is about 2 weeks old.
